That is a nice price for a set, especially if the shipping was the same for you as it would have been for me.
Enjoy!

Good Price!!
It take a Mean Man to kick on that deal..

Amen ! Yeah it was supposed to come today , but I reckon it will be here tomorrow !
I wish you luck. Let us know if you got the deal or otherwise.
Does that set have the plastic DC controlled steamer. If so don't try running it with an AC transformer. I have seen some cannonball sets with the DC steamer.
Nice buy.
Lionelfan, you are a man after my own heart! I have been buying quite a few "Bargains" myself as of late! For whatever reason, lately on the bay, there are items that interest me that no one else has placed a bid, and have taken advantage of the situation! don't get me wrong, I wont get into a bidding war with anyone, I have been patient and looking for just the right deal. I will never over pay, but it is fun and gives me something to do in the mornings! Have fun!
Worth? The set is WORTH to what you paid and it sounds like you got a good buy. . That set is worth the hours of enjoyment that you will receive from running it. if it was WORTH more it would have sold for more.
People have the mistaken belief that model trains are valuable. Fact is that with rare exception, they are worth little on the resale market. As for the PRICE GUIDE, that is a publication put together by someone with a crystal ball that wants to sell books. Ebay can report the selling trends on an item (but not the worth) but even that is not accurate. Trains are worth what you can sell hem for and from what I have been seeing of late that isn't much. Model trains are still a wonderful hobby and less stressful if you consider that your trains are worth very little.
Great Deal, enjoy.
Nick,
Looks like a good deal, especially if you got free shipping like I did when I bought the RTR Lionel Christmas Train set.

Have fun and enjoy it! Nice deal.
Looks like the shipping cost was more than the items cost.

that set wouldnt be worth $150.00 if it was the last train set on earth.....you get what you pay for.-jim

I agree with Dennis, you got a good deal. On eBay, a search of completed listings for 6-1081 set returned
$67 no bids
$72 no bids
$50 no bids
$72 no bids
$99 no bids
$44.99 sold
$150 Buy it Now no bids.
You did get the best deal of the year on your set.

nice score!
If you enjoy it it was a good deal and what you paid doesn't matter. Have fun with it.

I agree with this statement.
Now that's a heck of a deal!
train still has NOT arrived and was shipped priority mail . it wound up in IA and departed there at 4am today , so hoping to get it tomorrow .
train got here on Saturday and I ran it on sunday . box and train REEKED of mildew/mold odors so I bought some febreeze spray and sprayed it all and wiped off and that killed about 85-90% of the odors . Still has a faint musty type odor . But the seller told me that he got it on ebay also and it wasn't the set he wanted , so he sold it to me . He went on to say that the train is almost 50 yrs old and god only knows WHERE it was stored at over the years . Anyway I did make a video of it flyin by the camera
well my ****in steam engine just died ! ****
Oh man. Sorry to hear that. I bet it is not something serious and should not cost a lot to fix. Good luck with it. Keep us posted.
sprayed gears and wheels with WD-40 and now its back to running again !
OK, now lube it with motor oil so it won't stop running again. WD turns to gum in a few weeks. Motor oil never gets gummy
Man that thing flies... when it is running. But one good thing that I have found with older engines is that they are pretty easy to service and repair.
Have fun. A little oil and it should be good to go.
