I'm looking for a good working motor for a 402, does anyone have one?

Email me the details of which motor you need.

I didn't know there were different motors for the 402, I'm not sure which one I have.
One has a reversing unit and the other does not.
Ah, I thought you meant different motors for the 402 specifically. I have the regular 402 not the 402e.
Brian,
The 402, 402E and 408E all use the sam motor with distant reverse. Shoot me an email (address in my profile) and I'll try and work something out for you.

That's a 396 punched .030 over right? Might be getting my hobbies confused.

Brian,
There are 2 different motors used on the 402. The oldest up to 1923 used a large gear that was close to the wheels flange. It is mounted to the hub by way of 'peening' the gear to the hub. The later unit has the typical 2 hole gear alignment pins on the wheel and uses the smaller gear. You must use 2 motors that are the same. Harry

I like that! Got a 402 in the garage!
Lionel 402 had super motors in them, large gear and small gear. You cannot mix them due to gear ratios. 408s had both the super motors and also the Bild-a-loco motor. These can be mixed with the small gear super motors.
Does anyone have a picture of a comparison between the gear sizes, or a diameter of the gears so I can figure out which one I have?
The large gear motor gears are almost the the diameter of the flange and pressed very close to the back of the wheel. The small gear are no larger than the spoked part of the wheel and have an 1/8th inch gap between it and the wheel back. Post a pic... we can ID for you... also the large gear motors have a single large reduction gear, the small gear motor have 2 small ones.
Well I have 2 reduction gears, so I'm gonna go with it's the small gear motor.
Brian.
Bring it to the next train meet. Didn't see you at aggta swap meet.
I picked up a real crossing bell and light. Been looking for one for years.
Need one more light.
Make sure that you get one with the sheet metal hanger with a mounting post attached. I don't think that part is available anywhere.

I was there until about 10:30, I had to leave early to finish setting up for Christmas in the Park at Poway. I'll bring the motor by.

Rob,
Those hanger brackets are available.
