It's up.  I'm glad there's nothing there to suck a bunch of money out of my pockets this time versus the previous catalog.  I do like the Rio Grande auto rack and a few other items, but nothing screams "gotta have it" at me.

One observation -- Lionel's heavyweight passenger car prices are crazy!  They now officially cost more per car than Golden Gate Depot -- no exaggeration.

The Lackawanna Trainmaster Postwar Set is 100% nostalgia for me, partially modeled after 1954's Lionel postwar set #2223W, which was originally the only way to get the now ultra-rare 6464-100 Western Pacific orange boxcar with the blue feather and accompanying box numbered 6464-250.  I have my Dad's original 2223W set and still run it at Christmas.

The new set is cool but isn't the same consist.  Can't do 2223W without the blue feather or gray Lehigh Valley porthole caboose.  But kudos to Lionel for at least giving a nod to that original magical set.

Not impressed.  My wallet is safe.  Looks like Lionel is really maximizing the molds they have with all the fantasy variations.  Looks like star wars is getting the same old operating cars but now in a star wars theme.  I was hopping for some new legacy accessories but instead we have a command control crane for 450.  I really wish they would come up with some new operating accessories and cars.  The backshop was a great idea when it came out.  Same for the rotary coal tipple/swing bridge/lift bridge.  We need some fresh new ideas.   The turbine is nice and about par for pricing.  Hopefully the catalog appeals to others.  Hudsons and Vanderbilts are nice if you model NY.   This catalog just opens my funds to scenic details and my upper track level I've been wanting to add.

Oh my, the prices. And it's not inflation; it's just plain and simple charging more for the same product.

Check this out:

On page 186 there is the LED-decorated Mobile home from Lionel, which is $120
This is previous MTH tooling and was offered in their 2020 RTR catalog FOR $55
If you add 2025 inflation to $55 from 2020, it comes to $67.

The MTH version of these Mobile homes sell on eBay for 40 to 60 bucks.

Shopping around pays off, why pay twice as much for the same thing with the big "L" logo stamped on the bottom?

Not much. A whole section on battery operated kiddie trains? I think Polar Express has been milked for all it's worth. Star Wars trains? Really? I don't see much. Possibly the Legacy Lionel Lines Scout steam locomotive would be fun but the passenger cars offered would knock it up from the O-36 part of my railroad to the O-54. I'd like to get more use out of the O-36 with something like that locomotive.
