With the holidays approaching I'm looking forward to taking my 3-1/2 year old nephew to see some model frailroad layouts in and around the Philadelphia and surrounding counties area. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

The Christmas Putz (puh + tz) in The Lutheran Home at Topton, PA, will be open 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays from November 24 through December 30. The Putz was built piece by piece between 1909 and 1946 by Mrs. Ida Henry, Matron of The Lutheran Orphans' Home. It fills 560 square feet. It is the last and largest family Putz in America still under original ownership. For more information, go to Jim Kelly's online magazine, Tinplate Times (www.tinplatetimes.com). Click on "Archives." Scroll down to "A Tinplate Christmas Putz." Click on that.
Topton is located halfway between Reading and Allentown a few miles east of Route 222, along the East Penn Branch of the Reading (now Norfolk Southern). The Reading station there is now a bakery and deli. Topton is named for the top of the grade. Eastbound trains thunder through town blowing their horns for the crossing. A grand sight, indeed!

Come to think of it, Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad will open at 10:00 AM November 23 through December 31 in Reading Terminal Market at 12th & Market in downtown Philly, by PA Convention Center. Check it out at www.readingterminalmarket.org.
There's just a couple weekends left of these open houses, but there are some great layouts here to visit. Most are HO but there's some nice "O" layouts too.
