Looking for this DC motor which appears to be only used with the James Gang 8005 4-4-0. Loco is from around 1980 It is a common DC motor, but instead if a pinion gear it has a worm shaft. Part # 8005-100? Can't find any documentation on this.

 Thanks, Chuck

Chuck,

I ran into this issue 20 years ago, but here's what I remember.

The worm gear is available as 8005-147. (It looks like Trainz and Brasseur have 'em.) I can't remember if I found the correct motor or if I had something that was "close enough," but I was able to get the worm extension onto the motor without any major problems. The motor shaft itself is fairly short, and the worm is one long extension on the end of the short shaft.

I hope this helps!

It looks similar to Lionel parts #6308661100 (RTR 0-8-0 locos) and 710069100  (Hall class 4-6-0), which are the same motor but have slightly different size worms but have a flywheel.

I work  with these motors a lot.  It is possible to both remove/add flywheels and change worms/pinions, etc., if you have the right gear-puller tools, etc. I do that occasionally.   If you can't find the part, you might try that route.
