I have a PS2 GS2 loco that had been running just fine. I had turned off the sound and smoke. Every now and then I experienced an "Engine Not On Track" message when inputing a command, but was always able to gain loco control. I started a new operating session the other day and went to turn on the smoke. Got a "Check Track" message. Same message when turning on the smoke. Neither functions work yet speed/direction control does. Did a reset of the TIU and remote. No change. At this point the remote will not start-up or shut down the loco. Yet speed control works although now and then the "Check Track" message appears. Any trouble shooting feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure others with more experience than I will have more ideas but I have similar problems. I found that the trouble is in the communications between the TIU and the hand held controller. My TIU is not in a very good location and sometimes just moving the handheld controller a few inches will clear the problem.

Larry,

To better determine the nature of the problem, ether (connect) the remote to the TIU's Remote Input port and see if things improve. Post back with your results and we can go from there.

If things improve, we can discuss reseating the transceiver board in the TIU, remote or both.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Lary,

When I "read", I show no active engines". hissleading me to the TIU

If you had all of your engines powered off when you pressed "READ", that's the message that you'll always get. Further, you should find that all of your engines have moved  to the e Engine List.

Do you have similar issues with other PS2 engines or is it just this one that's having problems?

A few questions:

  • What is the model number of the TIU, as indicated on the bottom of the case? If it's a Rev. I3a is there a silver dot next to the model number?
  • How long have you been operating this TIU?
  • What is the DCS signal strength on each of the four channels?
  • If you connect just a short test track to any channel of the TIU, can you operate the engine correctly?
