I was testing out my Lionel FEC Es44ac. I was playing around with my smoke unit and thought of a great idea. I would love to see in the future, a way to see when to put more smoke fluid in the smoke unit. I am planning on doing run sessions 2x or so a week when I have the layout built. But with a ton of engines running it may be hard to keep up with the smoke fluid level. So I would love to see a gauge or something on the control remote or whatever indicating when to refuel that particular Locomotive. Leave your thoughts and opinions down below!

I have that engine and it is not a smoke fluid hog. My layout is 26X46. I think things are doing well as is.
I'd rather see a smoke fluid reservoir that holds more fluid, and it would be a lot simpler to engineer.
Agree with John. Engineering aside, a sensor-driven add-on would only escalate the costs of a model and become another sensitive component to troubleshoot.
Even a reservoir might be a problem for some because it would require fluid seals, and seals eventually fail. But for club operations and long-running displays, it might be a practical idea, especially if the reservoir was merely designed to contain excess fluid rather than as a fuel tank, so to speak.
I was thinking along the lines of just a larger fluid bowl on the smoke unit, nothing fancy. No leaks, as it would be a solid bowl, just larger and perhaps a bit deeper.
Yea, I love to see new ideas
When the engine stops smoking it's time to add more.
I would like to see a removable panel over the smoke unit for easy servicing.
speaking of larger smoke units, take a look at these, they even come with a dipstick to check smoke fluid level.
Maybe a sight glass like they put on boilers?
Actually I think something giving some idea as to how much smoke fluid was in your smoke unit would be nice, but I agree with others that it would probably be more trouble than it was worth and would definitely add to the costs of the engines.
I would also like a way to access the smoke unit easier. Most of the time we take apart our engines is to work on the skmoke unit, so that we be Awesome.
Adding smoke fluid when needed is not rocket science. Better operating dependability would be my first choice.
Maybe a smoke fluid cartridge. They would have a captive market.
Keith, I hope they're not listening to you! Last thing I need is an engine with a proprietary smoke filling cartridge!
Good morning, Away from the smoke fluid level topic.
The water scoop activation and sound would be neat, especially if you were modeling the Pennsy.
The PS1 sound box cars that Lionel released is a great idea. Not sure if all that banging is really necessary. I realize Lionel is offering an upgrade to the original sound set in these PS1 box cars.
Wheel flange squeal and a occasional flat spot on a wheel sound adds more sound and realism to a passing train.
A front coupler kit for MTH Imperial or Railking line would also be a welcome item.
MTH has given us the great feature of creating a lashup with the DCS system, but with the Imperial and Railking line steam engines we have to modify and build our own front coupler arrangements to use this neat feature.
The last thing on my wish list would be a operating wreck crane with sound that would work with the DCS system. I have mentioned this before.
The hours that could be spent using this item on the layout !!!!!!!!!
