This is a shot in the dark, but thought I would ask.

I have been looking at the store ads on Walt Hiteshew's site for the Marx clockwork Army set. http://www.toyandtrainguides.com/marxtin.htm See Rare Sets, then Clockwork Military Set.

Have any you seen the actual box it came in?
The bottom ad says it came in a barracks type box. None of the pictures show exactly the same box, you know how artists are.
Look at this Marx box that I have had for a while. The roof outline matches the first ad on Walt's site, kind of barn roof like, it does have barracks printed on one side of the roof, Fort Dix on the other. I have seen the box as part of a Army Playset from the same time period, http://www.pinterest.com/pin/290482244689310694/ , but Marx was famous for using items in multiple places.

I think it is about the right size to hold the set and track. Opinions????

That is an unusual box (to me), who has a few playsets, and my brother had an army

playset as a kid...but one of those with the to-assemble metal buildings.  I can't say

I've seen that box or its contents, but as a guess, I would say that is a playset box

and not a train set box.  However, as you noted, Marx was creative, and may have

offered a train set in that box, if it looks big enough to have held one and some

military figures, etc.  For my cuiosity, too,  I hope somebody chimes in who has

one or the other in a box like that.  (another thread is discussing throwing away boxes..not a good idea, for this reason)
