Marx Engine Repair Manual

The repair of your engines would be very similar to repairing Lionel or any other AC motored locomotive. The same procedures apply, and the wiring would also be very similar. What locomotives do you have?

Hi Larry,

I have a couple of Vanderbilts, 666, 10005 (basket case), 1666, and a few diesels. I was thinking that a manual would have an exploded view of each engine with part descriptions/numbers. Some of these were my dads and have been stored for over 30 years.

Marx did not have the extensive repair information that Lionel and American Flyer had. There is only one book that has extensive Marx info in it, and it is long out of print. Robert Grossman apparently had it in the past. Using basic repair techniques should get your locos running again, and many parts are available for repairs.

For your information, the Marx Train Repair Manual that Larry mentioned above is being sold on EBay. About once a month someone sells a new manual or two from time to time.

There are different variations of MARX, the CV trim for sure. One of my CV's was different, smoke bulb, e-unit, plated rod, welded headlamp visor & no trim ring. Ive heard dept. stores had customized variations for sale too. I for one would be more curious about the mechanical or trim variations than having yet another semi-generic "how to wire a locomotive" book. How in depth/accurate are the books on production changes? Does one shine above?
