I was scrolling through the Mercari app last week. Its a buying and selling app and found a small lot of Marx Trains sent an offer and the lot arrived today. One of the 666 locomotive only runs forward needs some work both locomotives are smokers. The switches looks to be homemade. Not sure if the cars are a full set or just a cobbled together bunch of cars. I know the tin plate caboose is not part for the set of other cars. Not sure what goes on the Erie flat car any ideas?

No sign of the clips on the deck of the flatcar so probably the side fences and a lumber load.
Those switches look really cool! Somebody did a great job with them, but I don't understand why.

The switches are certainly unusual, unlike anything else that I've seen.
I recall looking through old Toy Trains magazines and seeing switch kits for sale. The plastic pieces of your switches look like they may have been part of a kit.
The trains look like misc. pieces, the tin caboose and tin tender could go with one of the engines, the rest could have been part of a couple sets.
Those switches look exactly like ones from a how-to article from Boy's Life Scouting magazine from the late 50's / early 60's.
