Marx M10005 Engine Swapping

Hello.  I am trying to get the light out front on the same engine. It is powered by a 999 transplant and the light is actually mounted on the motor. Did you find a solution you will share. Many thanks. Ray

I understand your "sickness" perfectly well.  I found someone selling off the last pieces from her deceased husband's train collection, which included a Lionel 259 and tender it visibly good condition.  Also in the lot was a Coca Cola switcher from a 1974 special set.  Since she was selling it for only $20 and on ebay it generally goes for around $50, I bought it with the intention of selling it.  Since I later realized I happen to have another car from the set, I looks like it's gonna be running on my layout for a long time coming....

I'm also looking to swap out the dead electric motor from a later-production green M10005, so I'll be watching this thread closely.

Kind of along these same lines.....sort of. I have a M10005 in excellent cosmetic shape and it does run reasonably good. However, I would like to use it in an automated store display and what has been holding me back is the "fat tire" through the turnouts. What I have been thinking about is pulling the Marx innards and powering it with a Beep motor and running gear. Haven't done a thing to start this project, just kind of thinking it over. Any comments?

That was the advice I got on this forum when I asked about what brands of switches would work with the fat wheels. For the most part the answer was postwar Marx only.  At the next show I attend I’ll be looking for a 333 or 666 motor in vendors’ parts bins.

Just find a smokeless 666 or 1666 or 400 or 490 with a double reduction motor. Those motors can be swapped into the streamliner with little trouble, once you swap the front mount and remove the stud on the rear drivers that holds the drive rod. All it takes is a screwdriver, dykes, and pliers. Much simpler than a Beep transplant.

333 is a six axle motor and will not fit.
