What is the exact color of the Marx 3/16 NYC passenger cars ?
And does anyone make off the shelf paint that matches it ?
I was cleaning up mine and buffed to hard I guess and rubbed some paint thin on the top of the roof on two of them 
I would like to attempt to repaint just the roof of the cars since the sides are fine.

I have a dozen of them and the colors vary quite a bit. Find something close and you will be as accurate as when they were made.

Steve is dead right about the color variation. And gray is a hard color to match anyway. I have mixed black, white and green to match the cars you refer to. But the hard part was getting the right sheen. Shouldn't be hard to mask off the sides and ends once you get your color though.

I've never really given that idea a thought 
For a different project, I took a wall panel into the local auto paint store and the matched it pretty well and put it into an aerosol can for me. Also gave me the leftover paint. I now have enough paint for a dozen Paya train stations 
That's a beautiful example you have there, overlandflyer! they're a little hard to come by.

I too have seen Gray, green and silver cars.
take your pick. I like using paint right outta
the spary cans you can buy at any hobby/hardware
store. that way if you need more, its easy to buy the same can
you used before.
