Marx Trains/Ameritrains North Pole Express

Hello Everyone,

While collecting my Marx Trains (aka: Flynn-Marx, Modern-Marx, New Marx, Ameritrains) North Pole Express and Christmas items I found it difficult to find a simple source of what was produced.  To help my fellow collectors, I put together this guide.  I'm calling it a 1st edition, because I plan to update it each Christmas as I gather more pieces and update photos.  However, I believe this is a complete list with photos/production year/prices and descriptions on every item produced.  Nevertheless, I may have missed something and would love it if you would let me know if you have any revisions or additions.

Thank you for posting this. I also collect New Marx et al Christmas cars, and this gives me a bit of info as to what was made that I haven't seen.

 

Here's a picture of my Christmas train:

 

 

The engine and tender are original Marx (I repainted the engine), followed by a green Christmas tree flatcar, a Santa in door boxcar, a Rudolph in door boxcar, the musical Santa's private coach, and a Christmas caboose.

Thanks for the kind words. The engine was my first try at a repaint in quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it turned out. I still need to replace or repair the headlight socket, as it has a short in it somewhere. I didn't plan on using the red tender with the engine, but it matched close enough for my liking, so I stuck with it. I was going to repaint an 8 wheel wedge tender to match the engine.

 

I don't recall where the musical car came from. I thought I bought it on ebay, but I didn't see it in my purchase history. I did see the caboose, and I know I bought it before the music car.

 

Most of the tin houses are Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift store finds. A few of them came from Big Lots a few years ago. Those came with some pretty horrible cookies. I had some glittery Christmas trees that looked like they were made out of coat hanger wire that went with the tin buildings, but I cannot find them anywhere. Those looked really neat with the buildings.

 

I keep an eye out for the modern Marx cars, especially the Christmas ones. It's a fun group of trains to collect. They are rare enough to be a challenge, but they usually don't sell for enough to break the bank.

Hello my I sure love red Marx Commodore Vanderbilt locomotive and red tender and rest of your Christmas  train it looks so cool and very neat. I bet it is fun to run on your Christmas layout and runs great too. Those Commodore Vanderbilt locomotives are great engines. I have few myself and I run them a lot too My favorite Marx locos are the 333, 666, 999 and Commodore  Vanderbilt locomotives. Marx the toughtest trains ever built made in USA too. To that is the very cool part. Very easy to repair and run for years. Thanks longbow57ca.

You Lucky Dogs!  Where did you both find them.  I've never found one for offer...and I'm afraid if I did it would be too rich for my blood.  I'd love to hear them to see what they sound like.  Would either of you guys be able to post a video with sound of it?

It was offered up for sale a few days ago on my Marx Trains/Ameritrains Yahoo forum. Part of a long list Rod is selling including an IRT set.
