Marx Trains (Modern Marx) Collector Series Boxcars

In 2002 Marx Trains introduced the Collector Series Boxcars. Each series was to have three roadnames. To encourage buyers to support their dealers, each series was to have a fourth car. The "dealer special" car would have the same litho as one of the other cars in the series, but would be colored differently. This fourth car was to only be available if bought from a dealer. They were also numbered, 1/100 etc. If you asked, they would reserve a number for you for all subsequent series. Mine are all 55/100. In the photos below, the bottom car is the dealer special. Only three series were made. Series one in 2002, series two in 2004 and series three in 2005. Series four was advertised with line drawings of the cars, but they never materialized. Ends up all the litho sheets were printed for series four, but the company folded before ever getting the litho sheets from their vendor. Series four did end up getting produced around 2012 under the name Joe's Trains. When I get time, I will add the pictures for the fourth series.

Wondering if Joe's plans on doing anymore in the future. Appears he is selling off the excess stock he acquired on several component items.

Joe Bender sold all the Marx Trains stuff to Mike Hungler, mikesattic on E-Bay. I have not talked to him, but Al Osterud has. Not sure what his plans are, but he did ask if anyone had a spare 20 ton press laying around

Joe Bender sold all the Marx Trains stuff to Mike Hungler, mikesattic on E-Bay. I have not talked to him, but Al Osterud has. Not sure what his plans are, but he did ask if anyone had a spare 20 ton press laying around

I've purchased several flat New Marx/Ameritrain boxcar sheets from Mike in the last few months. Saw a few of Joe's items listed too but out of my price range at the time. Maybe George Verragami will create a couple more 3/16 passenger or mail cars. I miss Dave Helber from Faux Toys with his wraps too.

Jim, I have a couple unbent of flats also. Yes I miss Dave's great graphic wraps too. I am in the middle of converting all mine to 8 wheel. I'll post a photo series when I'm done. Also of some of the nice graphics Trey Assil did.

Mike had acquired a 20 ton press when he showed me the tooling a few years ago.
