In trying to save $$, I've looked at Williams, but some of the colors seem goofy- ACL and Lackawana and CP seem "plum-colored". Some D&RG are yellow, some "golden". I would like to mix brands (L, MTH, Wms) of engines and cars but don't trust the colors I see advertised. Do I need to stick to all Lionel or MTH or Wms, at least for the lines mentioned above? In years of painting and watching others paint, and seeing manufacturers paint,
nobody matches. Lionel Union Pacific yellow is different than MTH UP Yellow that's
different than RMT UP yellow that's different than Williams UP yellow and so on and so on. I think you get the point.
Prototypes didn't always match either. There are lots of photo's of equipment where the colors are off. Dirt, fading, different sources for the paint.
Thanks Guys. Since I like (and have some Lionel & MTH) Lackawana, CP, and ACL, I was disappointed in the variations, particularly Wms (guess that's why they're cheaper). But the ACL covered wagon at Spencer did look "plummy" as much as purple. Are any of the Lionel, MTH or Wms colors that I mentioned above accurate/common on the prototypes?

I've changed my buying plans more than once due to cars not matching engines. I usually don't mix manufacturers when setting up a particular road name consist.

Recent picture. There has always been a discussion of Pennsylvania Railroad Tuscan Red. MTH heritage ES44AC, Weaver E8 (90's), and a Recent Weaver Baldwin BP20.
