Wondered if the "track" used in the engine house would approximately match the O gauge track width and height.  See from Menards picture, their  "rail" is square which wouldn't bother me as much as their track width would not match up closely with the Lionel O gauge track width.  My plan is to put house at end of a minimal maintained rusty weedy spur in industrial area.

Anyone have this house and answer my question?

RRMAN,

I love that idea!

In the planning stages of the building process, we made sure to match track width and height as best as possible to O gauge track. Here are some images that show the height and width is pretty spot on.

With the addition of a little brown paint or even a few coffee grounds, you can easily camouflage the joint where the track meets the building.

Thanks Mark!  Pictures clinched the deal (close enough for government work as they say).  Placed order just now.  Already cleared a place on layout for it.

Nice thing is the rails doesn't have to be smooth.  Track can be bent here and there to line up with house, joints can be open to simulate old track.

This will probably be the only building that will be powered up in a fixed location, unlike other town buildings that we regularly shuffle to create different looks.

Hi

Just got Engine house Saturday 12/19.  Fits right in the industrial space as planned.  Wife and I fiddled with old pieces of short shadow rail track, bending the pieces to line it up with house so lots of open joints.  Now to weather and bury track under sculptamold glop to appear like poor maintained rails.  Next will be find an old cheap tender at train show, remove trucks, use heat gun to warp/dent it then weather it and place next to house, maybe get o scale welders to simulate torch cutting.   And finally find a smoke unit and pipe smoke under engine (use when guests visit)

Found you have to press the light button to get the glowing embers effect, doubt real embers blink on/off .
