We are going to Chicago next month to visit our son and grandchildren. They live about 7 miles from the Menards stores in Long Grove and Mt. Prospect IL. Do these stores stock model railroad items this time of the year? Thanks

This time of year is hit and miss. If you goto Menards site and make account it will ask you which store put one in ( you can change later if you want) and you should bring up what they have in each store. But it's not much this time of year.
Thank you so much.
The stores will not have any train items on the main floor but on the second floor storage area with the Christmas things they may have a small inventory of what was left over from the holiday season. I'm not familiar with those two stores but most of the newer stores have the second floor.
Frank
Long Grove is a single floor store, not sure about Mt. Prospect.
This maybe totally off the wall but, why not call each store and ASK THEM?????
Somewhat related: If they *do* have stuff "in storage", is the 2nd floor an area accessible by normal customers? Or must you tell them the website says they have the item you want, and someone goes looking for it?
The storage area is accessible to the public and things are marked on shelfs. Just ask and they will help you.

Thanks, Frank; sorry for the delay in responding; had company...
DIOKS:
If there is something specific you want and it is available on the company website, you can order it and the company will ship it free to the specific store you choose.
Happy visiting and shopping.

It is my understanding that:
1> Each store inventory of train items can be viewed online.
2> You may order train items from the distribution center in WI and have it shipped to any store free of charge.
I hope that this helps you.
Yes, Tony & MG are correct.
Only issue is that I'm in DFW, and my closest Menards is ~450 miles away in Salina KS. We regularly travel that way, but I was told the stores get upset if an item ships to their store and the person doesn't pick it up within a week of its arrival. And, like most things, no firm dates available. I know what that store has - I'd always just assumed that it sat in the stock room until the following Christmas season arrived.
Nice to know I can get up there and purchase any time of year.
I may not have been clear with my comments.
I find it takes about a week for 'special orders' to be shipped to stores in N. Illinois.
Knowing that information, would it be possible for you to order items to be shipped to the Long Grove store prior to your trip and then pick them up during your visit?
I have found a phone call to a store manager explaining a late pickup to be met with a great deal of help and cooperation.
Something to consider!
7 miles....I'd just drop by and check....never know what you may find......I drive 6 hours to visit Menard's!!! (my brother lives near by....but hay!!)

Most stores, if not all I have been to are single floor stores but,,,they have an area in the store where you can climb steps and see what they have on hand that is out of season. It is just a platform where they keep things. look around or ask and they will show you where it is. At the Morris store it is above the summer / grills and stuff section of the main store.
Hey Guys, this reply is based on my online experience with Menards Toy Train products. I know and fully realize that many of you love Menards and have gone to bed with them (So to speak they can do no wrong). Does Menards Train store have a customer service dept. ???? How would a good customer connect to their train store. ??? Does Menards really care about the toy train portion of their business???? BTW, The question that prompted this reply is concerning the 4.5 v 2000 ma 3 outlet ac to dc adapter. No info. You order Yes or No. Specifics not listed.
I'm kinda prejudicial against company's that do not a have customer service dept. that is available to the public. I am older than most of you and still run a kinda small local honey business.. Most of you folks have been in the market place in your time, and I still am in mine now, realizing that the customer is always No. 1.
Thanks for your time reading, If I'm incorrect, in your opinion, please reply. I need your candid remarks, verbal differences, The truth always, you ain't gonna hurt me. You, of course, are entitled to my honest reply.

There are only a gazillion posts about Menard's customer service here on THIS forum. I know I posted a few when I had a small issue and it was fixed fast!!! A easy search will turn them all up....good or bad.......

I live nearby the Long Grove store and visit every weekend. I can tell you all the trains remaining, and there was not much left, have been pulled from the shelves and moved upstairs to the overstock room above the furniture. This time of year the best way to purchase is on thier web site. If you do not want to pay shipping have the trains shipped to one of the stores you will be visiting and pick them up when you are in town.
Hi Dave, Thanks for you quick reply, Yes Dave a gazillion plus 1. Maybe somebody can read. Thank you again for your input.
Off the subject, I enjoyed your Amtrak rail travel log. I shall be leaving in May from Flo SC to Was to Chi to Emy. Rent a convertible to Portland OR. pick up a train to Chi to Was to Flo. Enjoyed your pics of your restored classics. Bad news!!! My 65 2 + 2 Mustang fully restored was stolen about 6 weeks ago. I think it was a inside job. BTW, Insured for full coverage. Money ain't value.
My best to you
Tommy
Hey Areizman, We appreciate your reply. We live in the state of South Carolina. We do not have a Menards outlet anywhere near zip 29072. We have In-laws in Green Lake WI that we fly to Mil and rent a car to GL. No time to locate a Menards train store during these visits.
Best Regards
Tommy
Hey Tommy,
Menards is headquartered in the Milwaukee suburbs. Chances are real good there is a store on the way to from the airport.
Don't know, but if you go to menards.com there is a contact us. Menards isn't a train store, they don't have train store customer service. Click on the General Office and it will go to Customer Service and it will get to the correct persons.
I'm not in bed with them, but I do know how to use a computer.

I hope my responses answer all your questions. There all good questions but could of been found just reading the different replies to different Menards subjects.
Now lets ask this question.
Who else comes out with new items all year long?
And for the money show me another car from another manufacturer that compare to the cars Menards put out.
I understand they have had some problems with some products, but so has the rest.
I understand they don't have the $25+ a set trucks but the ones they do use are very nice. Yes they had a problem with the ones at first but they went back and got that corrected also. Their quality #1 is very high and in my point of view for what you're paying/buying is excellent.
I'm not what you called gone to bed with but when I see a good product I will buy it. I still love Lionel ( mainly post war ) ( that's another thing Menards is not meant to be scale or try to compete in that market.) I like MTH cars also

Way off. Menards is headquartered in Eau Claire. That's in northwestern Wisconsin not far from the Twin Cities metro area across the border in Minnesota. It's about a four-hour drive from Milwaukee.
