Gentlemen,

I finally had some time to open the Menards deliveries and for the money was impressed with the new quality of the Flat Car with Deuce and a half, and the slightly upgraded detail on the Military Box Cars was good to see also.  The new trucks look like they will get the job done on the layout, so I will not need to rework the new Menards rolling stock with the MTH premium trucks that were required on the way cool Tank Flat Car.  Has anybody had to the time to test run the newer Menards Military rolling stock, to see how it acts going thru switches & 036 curves.

Guns,

It's the new 036 FasTrack CC switches with these lighter military Box Cars that I am concerned about.  I was hoping somebody had test run them thru the 036 switches. I agree they look like they should run the 036 curves without problems.  I do not think they will have problems with the bigger FT CC switches like yours at all.

The new Legacy Northern Pacific GP9 & one of the Menards Military Box Cars, with shell Load.

Are those military boxcars traditional 0-27 or are the at least close to scale?  I'd love to have a few but I want something a little bigger than the small traditional 0-27.

tackindy,

As far as I can tell they are bigger than traditional 027 but not quite scale, the Flat Car with Deuce and a half is pretty close to scale however, has the wooden floor board look to the WWII Flat Car and all.  The Box Cars do have some light detailing, with the air brake cylinders, and some line also. IMO for the money, very nice rolling stock.  If you really wanted them to look seriously cool, add the MTH Premier Trucks like I did with the Tank Flat Cars, however they do look nice right out of the box.

Dave,

I had mentioned in a previous thread that the 2 1/2 truck looks like a Solido truck right down to the gas can load. Can you take off the truck and see if there is any brand name on the underside of the truck?

When I was building my military train I purchased a Solido 2 1/2 truck which was in tan camo. I spray painted in olive drab green and re-decaled it. Looks exactly like the one on the Menards flatcar.
