I’ve done some complaining of late about the latest Menards cars not so much the cars but the advertising. They have however been an economical way to build the consist for my small layout. I started my journey in this hobby by buying a Ready To Run Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer set. On sale at Menards, go figure. I set this up under the tree for a few years. And then ended up buying inexpensive Menards track to expand. It went on from there. Attached is a short video of the Menards cars in the order I purchased them. Some operate fine some I had to mess with and some I messed with because I wanted to. The flat car and gondola needed no modifications I just added loads. The SF box car I just bought because of the war bonnet paint scheme and actually used it as a baggage car for my Super Chief set for a while. I had to add a thin spacer between the car bottom and trucks to eliminate excess wobble. The Lackawanna hopper I had to cut off the ladders that extended below the frame as the wheels hit them causing a derailment. The Graffiti box car had a nasty wobble so I replaced the trucks with the Lionel fully sprung trucks. The coal hopper have no issues. The intermodal car I swapped out the plastic trucks with the metal trucks I removed from the Graffiti car just because I wanted to. When all hooked up it makes a consist that can’t get any longer. See other two photos. The Intermodal car is basically just for show it won’t negotiate my scenery on my curves or the switch lanterns.
