Hello,

I am going to use a metal (aluminum) box for my control panel on an O gauge layout.   The face of the panel will have multiple power switches mounted to it.  Some toggle switches, some on-off power switches, etc.

But, these switches are made of metal.  When you mount the switch to the panel, and then run the wires to the switch, won't the metal switch itself run a current to the box by its metal to metal contact?  Or, are all switches insulated somehow when you mount them down on the control panel?

Thanks for all info.

Some switches use the frame as common. They only have one terminal for each position. They tend to be older and used in dc applications, especially automotive. I have had a bunch myself for decades.... they seldom get used to ever get used up. (ah, a kill switch on minibike, snowblower, etc. uses one)

If you had to, you'd isolated with bushings, fiber washers, and/or fishpaper.

Use a wire holder/knot in wire inside the box to stop yanking from the outside having any effect on switch/wire position/connections inside.
