Dear friends,

as you might know, my modeling focus lies in the mid 1940's where metal roof walks were very rare. It seems that some newly built cars had them already. I started this very cool Intermountain 1937 AAR type double door box car kit and came across pictures of the actual car! A great find but it showed metal roof walks, something I had not yet done.

So I reached out to Mr. John Wubbel of All Nation Line who was extremely helpful and kind, a great person to work with! He sent me his roof walks made of brass. I love these parts and combined them with PCS castings #40533. I had to trim the mesh quite a bit and slightly bent the corners with precision pliers. I could have done a better job sanding the edges – next time.

I'd say these parts really do make a great difference compared to the cast plastic running board that comes with the kit. There is quite a lot of masking ahead and I'll prime and paint the boards to match the rest of the car. This is already one of my favorite projects and I can't wait to see it finished!

Cheers

Sarah
