Good Wednesday, everyone!  Midweek Photos is our chance to share the ordinary and the spectacular world of railroading with people all over the world.  It seems that when one spectacular thing happens, others happen around the same time.  This was a busy weekend for the Scranton PA railroading.  Friday evening, the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society held a "Swing into Spring" event where they exhibited their passenger train, along with some RS3s lent by Delaware Lackawanna Railroad.

Their pride and joy is Lackawanna RR Diner number 469, a 1949 -Budd built car which ran with the Phoebe Snow train.

Peaches and Crime, singing Prohibition era styled songs, performed at the former Lackawanna RR station.  This location was once the boarding area.

Saturday, April 16 was "the Phoebe Snow Gala" held at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel.  The ELDCPS provided lunch and dinner aboard the diner.

Also, tours were given to tell of the legend of Phoebe Snow, who represented the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad from 1900 through 1966.  Dominick Keating and Phoebe Snow begin the program, while Kenny Ganz wraps up the tour by taking people through the station.

On Sunday, April 17, the focus shifted down the streets in Scranton to the former railroad yard.  As part of National Park Week, Baldwin Locomotive Works 0-6-0 number 26 was debuted with a short dedication ceremony.

Steamtown superintendent Debbie Conway and NPS Northeast Regional Assistant Director Jonathan Meade spoke at the podium and cut the ribbon to celebrate the end of this steam engine restoration.

And off she rolls.  And so do I .  Time to get to work.  Please add your scenes of railroading from the recent past, so you can share the celebrations as well as the ordinary railroad items in your corner of the world.  Have a great week!

On Sunday, the Allentown and Auburn had a piece of equipment arrive. PRR 4666 arrived in the afternoon via NS.

I spent most of the day at the shop in Topton, but snuck off to Mertztown to catch the move.

After 4666 passed, I hurried back to the shop, to find everyone on Allentown and Auburn 206 down at the interchange waiting for 4666. I went down and climbed up with the others.

After they were coupled up, it was time to head back to the shop. I climbed down to shoot them switching at the interchange.

As 4666 passed, I climbed on the rear vestibule and rode her back to the shop. It needs work, but hopefully it will soon be a working member of the growing fleet.

Stay tuned for more arrivals coming in the near future.

On 4/16/2016, I ventured up to Horseshoe curve National Historic Site, on the x-PRR/PC/CR/now NS mainline west of Altoona,PA. After a 2.5 hr. drive, I arrived about 9:45a.m. to find recent reports on NS facebook to be correct; the trees/brush that have defeated photography/viewing of train action are being clear-cut, reportedly first time in almost 15 years! When I rode behind NKP 765 almost 3 years ago around the curve, it was hard to see the engine and train wrapped around the curve. I had not been here on the grounds in 20+ years, since the park was completed in the early 1990s.
In 3 hours spent at the curve, 10 freights came by, along with a 8-unit helper engine movement.
4 movements were westbound, the rest eastbound.
By noon, the 70 degree day led to a modest crowd, not railfans, but picnickers!
The tree clearing is made possible by a grant obtained by Altoona's Railroaders' Museum, and should be complete by end of month.
