I am fascinated by the relationship of railroading to the milk industry, especially in the days prior to electrical refrigeration. Looking to relax after work today, I decided to make a milk "unit train". It's a heavy train, so I'm using a 4-motored DL109-110 to pull it.
In the US, in the days before trucking, the railroads were instrumental in bringing milk and dairy products to the rapidly growing cities of the industrial revolution.
Who else is interested in this chapter of RR history.

A while back, years actually, there was a 22 page post on milk trains and cars. So much good information I saved some parts.

I too like milk trains. Your video and train are great. I have a small cow shed on my layout, but no landing for milk cans yet. Alfalfa bales come from idea off this forum. Sawdust glued to scale size blocks of wood. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of my favorite trains. I have accumulated quite a number of the Lionel STD O milk cars and put them behind my CC2 Niagara.
I have an interest in milk trains, too. I have passed up relatively inexpensive versions
of brass "butter dish" milk cars I would have put on three rail trucks, because I think
these cars only ran in the the northeast. I would like evidence they ran in the west.
If they ran out of Wisconsin to Chicago, that would be interesting.

Morning Peter, I added an old video clip of my N&W Y6B pulling a long consist of milk and other reefers.
Peter...now you have gone and done it!! I have been thinking about the milk cars and even have several but a nice long train of them...OH BOY!! The videos are great guys!

This PRR passenger train is the exact consist of the early morning milk train in the fifties from Easton to Philadelphia via Harrisburg. The R50 refrigerated cars carried the milk cans.
