Milwaukee Road E6 top side stripe?

As far as I know the original Hiawatha lightning bolt scheme did have the stripe as can be clearly seen in the last photo you posted which is a builders photo.  Overland captured that look very well.  How long did it last?...Not sure. 

 

 

 

Filters used with black and white photography can make certain colors "disappear" or change.  The third photo looks like there's no stripe, but under close examination, there's some evidence of a stripe on both sides of the top (Mars) light housing.

Or, not using a filter. The stripe is visible to certain extents in all of the photos.

Those Milwaukee Road E6's wore many different designs of paint over their service lives.  Milwaukee could not make up its mind about the paint scheme until they finally settled down with the orange with maroon rectangular stripe in the 1950's which lasted a few years without change and was then replaced by UPRR Yellow and grey.  The E6 units wore every variation.

hmmm that's what I thought. Seems like a common practice among railroads lol.

Sorry I missed this. I have some input but I need to glance at my books. I did some of the art used on those Key Model E6's. I like the later version with covers on the radiator grills. Beefy looking.

I'd appreciate that, bud! Once I pay for my 3rd Rail F7's, there's a chance I pull the trigger on a Key Milwaukee Road E6 A/A set later this year...

This was my Unicorn for years and gave it up. Ultimate HI man! I had 14 cars and ordered Key's Milw E6 #15 did most of the research and moved to Colorado and gave into the peer pressure to model only Colorado and west.
I was a loyal Milw Crip fan in the Midwest living in Iowa and near Minnesota.

Throughout the day today I will gather my photos of the Hiawatha Kits I had. I did document the unbuilt kits well for you. These models are top of the line and brass quality. The truck is to avoid the older Nystrom trucks and get Kiel Line later release with the brass bushings.
