I am considering replacing my Lionel Fastrack switch machine control lever (which is quite large) with a smaller one that could be placed on a layout control pannel. This would make it possible to have the switch controller appear on a control pannel  track schematic, at the location on the track map where the switch is located.

An example of what I want is shown below, taken from an old form post:

I have already replaced some of the big black pushbutton box with a small pushbutton, as the big black box supplied by Lionel is just an oversized pushbutton.

However, I believe there may be more in the fastrack switch controller. There is also the need to have an idicator light to show which way the switch is thrown (which is part of the switch controller that comes with fastrack). My current control pannel with the original Lionel switch controler is shown below:

Has anyone done this with fastrack switches, and how do you do it?

Thanks for any help on this topic

The Fastrack switch controller is just a single pole double throw momentary switch, center off.

The LEDs are lighted with a +5 vdc for green and a -5 vdc for red. I may have that reversed, but that would be easy to measure...the yellow wire versus black. And of course the grn and red wires momentary to black do the switching.

I use DCS. I have some AIU's that I have not hooked up yet. I plan on operating some routes using the AIU, however I want all the switches to work manually from a local control pannel at each town, so visitors can easily operate the railroad.

I will look into getting the required switch at my LHS and try a prototype to see if I can get the lights working properly. Thanks cjack. Do you know of any manufacurer's part numbers for the DPDT switch and LED lights?

Thanks: JoeK

I looked on All Electronics but they did not have spdt (on) off (on) switches. Mouser has a bunch...here's the page there... http://www.mouser.com/Electromechanical/Switches/Toggle-Switches/_/N-5g2j?P=1z0z2xmZ1z0z26cZ1z0z812&Keyword=spdt+switch&FS=True

Here are some less expensive from Jameco... http://www.jameco.com/webapp/w...0001_10001_317252_-1 http://www.jameco.com/webapp/w...10001_10001_75889_-1

You could also use two of these...a red one for turnout and a black one for thru...maybe on the track lines... http://www.jameco.com/webapp/w...0001_10001_315643_-1

The leds, I would connect a single 470 ohm resistor connected to the junction of the yellow wire and the two leds, one green and one red with the polarity flipped appropriately on them. Then the other side of the leds connected together and to the black wire. Then plus 5 vdc will light the grn and minus 5 vdc would light the red. Look in search for led on Jameco or All Electronics and pick ones that mount how you want them.
