I have an Atlas SW8 that has the front coupler orientation reversed. Consequently it will not mate with a properly installed coupler on any of my rolling stock. The rear coupler is correctly oriented and will mate with the rolling stock. The front coupler housing appears to be firmly attached to the frame.  Any ideas or suggestions on how to reverse the orientation of this coupler without destroying the front of the loco would be greatly appreciated.

You mean that the coupler is mounted up-side-down? Now that is totally bizarre.

You have to remove just the lid on the coupler box. The screws that hold the box to the pilot aren’t visible. When you remove the coupler you will see them. It can be done. You might be able to find more info on removal doing a search. The lid snaps on. Lot easier to install the remove. You need to gently pry of the lid. If it breaks. It’s not the end of the world. It can be replaced with a Kadee or a factory coupler box.
