I have read that it is better to stir acrylic paint before using instead of shaking.   Supposedly shaking introduces air bubbles that don't float out easily.  I have a battery mixer, would that be considered shaking or stirring.

I am specifically going to use Badger Model flex.  What experience has been had by painters.  I'm finally getting the courage to try my Iwata gravity feed airbrush.

Gray,

I have mixed Badger Model Flex acrylics, Tamiya acrylics and Testor enamels using both the battery operated mini mixers and the pictured Vortex mixer. To my eye, no difference between these methods of mixing, regardless of whether you air brush or hand brush.

The Vortex mixer is very thorough and there is no wasted paint at all. Using any type of stir stick in the bottle always seems to waste a few drops of paint stuck to the mixer. Many of these paints come in only 17 ml to 30 ml bottles, so every drop counts!

Some acrylic model paints come with balls or beads for shaking, so I think it depends on the paint brand. I use Mission Models paint and they advise shaking for their brand and it's worked for me.

Now I do use my battery operated stirrer for my primer, which is Badger Stynlrez, and that stuff bubbles a bit btt until really mixed (that stuff is thick) but they quickly dissipate.
