Does anyone mix tinplate and traditional equipment on the same layout?

Yes. Sometimes I run all traditional and sometimes all tin. From time to time I mix them up and run them together. Why not?
Yes, do it all the time. My favourite combo is the MTH Chapelon French loco (Premier) pulling a set of Darstaed tinplate Pullman coaches. Prettiest train ever.

Dave, how did you couple them together?

You betcha. I like running American Flyer on my 'S' loop, with Marx 3/16 scale on the other two.
From what I understand, O gauge and Standard gauge were common on pre-war layouts and department store displays. An example from You Tube.
of my three mains, I have one that usually has Postwar,Prewar/Postwar on the second, and Marx on the other.
Oh yes, I mix it all Prewar tinplate, postwar traditional and a few more modern scale cars and engine's..even have a bunch of wooden kit cars I like too... If I like it, I run it...

that looks great Dennis!
Pic #1, have any more pics of the blue and white cars?
Pic #2, I think the engineer was running the train too fast, he lost the shell off the tender....
Sure thing Dave, They're just some ratty Blue Streak cars. I know some would restore em, but there was enough left for me to choose to keep em as is. Problem is I need to dig up or paint up a matching blue engine.

not ratty at all, that's the way I like'm. thanks!
I have a tinplate loop, mainly for engines that can't handle the switches on my other loops. Tinplate runs right beside traditional on my layout.
It's actually amusing running my PS2 Camelback at the same time as my 262E. Oddly, I'm drawn to the 262E over the Camelback.
Those old tinplate locos have a charm all their own. To see one run after all those years since its manufacture, and consider how well-built it is, to listen to the sounds and watch the side rods flash is just an experience.
