Hi everyone, Ever since Polly-Scale? quit making paints, I don't know where to go for acrylic paints in the 1oz. to 2oz. sizes. I know that Weaver has their scalecoat but that is oil base. Does anyone have a source for water based paints with a large selection of colors?

I checked the scenery source on the Forum but I didn't see any paint sources. I thank all in advance for your replies.

You may be into Polyscale in 1/2 oz bottles available from Walthers.  Seems to be an interesting way of doubling the price of acrylic model paints.  Another available acrylic in Railroad colors is Badger Modelflex.

Way-back, Walther's offerings.

http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/704-4873  Model Master.

15 colors available in 1/2 oz bottles.  704-4873 through 704-4888.

I've linked to the Walther site before.  This information usually disappears within 24 hours. Most likely a security feature.   Limited Railroad Acrylics (15 colors) are available in 1/2 oz bottles.

Paul:  Not sure about acrylics, but Weaver does offer two types of paint with mostly the same colors in each.  Scalecoat I is for metals and woods, Scalecoat II is for plastics.  Both available in 6oz spray cans or 1 and 2 oz bottles.  They also package them in touch-up tubes.  Since Polyscale, Floquil and Testors got out of the market, Weaver's paints have become quite popular.

Testors has remade the railroad colors from their dis-continued lines (most of them anyway) in another one of their paint lines, I believe they are also acrylics. I posted a list of them I got from a magazine a while back, but now I can't find the post? They are supposed to be available now. I only paint buildings (mostly some kind of plastic) and I have been using the $0.99 cent stuff from Michaels. It works well for me and it's a lot cheaper and many more colors are available.

Large chain of craft stores, like Hobby Lobby. They usually have almost an entire side of an isle of acrylic paints at different prices (from 89-99 cents up to $2-$3 or so), many different colors and several brands. I usually get the cheaper ones. They worked very well on the plastic buildings I have painted, which are mostly Ameri-Towne. I have never tried it, but you might also be able to order on-line from them? I usually go to their stores, there are several in my area.

I have used the old Testors brands that were discontinued and didn't notice a lot of difference between those and the less expensive craft store paints? However, I don't do any air brushing, only paint by hand with a brush and I'm not an expert modeler like some here are. I have not tried any of the new Testors replacements for their discontinued brands, but those should also be available from hobby stores and possibly some craft stores.

I will be brush painting them.
Thanks!

I have never painted a handrail, but the inexpensive ones I mentioned above work well on plastic buildings. Other than the handrail being a lot more delicate, I would think they should work on a plastic hand rail also?
