That's great!  But you may be a pizza away from never getting back into that space again!

A year and a half ago I had knee surgery and decided to heed the advice of the forumites and rip apart my layout that had a center opening, and changed it to an island so I wouldn't have to crawl under anymore,  Well...I didn't like how my main lines shortened so......now that my knee has healed and I am back to running 4 miles a day, lifting weights 6 days a week, and playing softball April through October....I decided to go back to the around-the-room layout with the 24" center opening.  I think I am now FINALLY content with that configuration and now that train season is upon us (me anyway), I am now laying my track and wiring.  I will only need to crawl in to the center when I need to work on the inner-scenery or clean the inner-tracks...hopefully, without too much stress on the knees.

Exactly!

And not having the crew of helpers as you have  , I finally put most tools and supplies on an old TV cart, which I wheel with me when I get ready to work on the layout.

The more frequently used tools are in a bag, which I keep next to me - especially when going through a hatch!

And of course, keeping fit really helps not only for going through the hatches, as Greg said; but for getting on the layout and playing Twister (remember that game?) over the layout with the tracks, cars, and buildings!
