I'm looking to replace the "sounds of steam" in my 783 Hudson tender with something that sounds like a postwar air whistle. Is there a part # or parts source for a modern equivalent? Is my best bet to fit a postwar whistle with a mechanical relay?

You can get the whistle from one of the many set locomotives from Lionel parts, they're pretty cheap as a rule and would solve the problem of having a PW whistle sound. The electronic replacement for a horn relay is included, just connect to track power and go.

Looks like lionel is the only supplier with them in stock!

I would vote for the Post War whistle. The modern version doesn't compare in quality to the original. Even the '50s version with the plastic airbox. If you can find a '40s era metal airbox even better.

With a PW whistle could I use the power from the tether or have to change the trucks to incorporate rollers? I don't know if the OEM wire has the capacity to handle the power needs of a real PW whistle/relay.
