Previously I posted a procedure for modifying the venerable Lionel 260 bumpers to fit FasTrack and change to LED. That involved wiring to power the bumper. The 2283 bumper is very similar to the old 260 but with some minor changes. The bottom cover is removable by screws instead of being riveted on. And it has two mounting screws at the front and one mounting screw at the rear (the 260 has a small pin at the rear). This means the 2283 is an easier starting point as the three mounting screws are sufficient for FasTrack and the existing metal contact to the center rail can be used eliminating power wiring.
See attached "Modifying Lionel No. 2283 Bumper to fit Lionel FasTrack" pdf document for step-by-step instructions.
The instructions don't describe how to mount it, however. Remove the three mounting screws and push the bumper down fully onto the track where you want it. Mark the sides of the rails at the mounting hole locations. Remove the bumper and drill holes sideways through the rails at the mounting locations. Then mount the bumper and the mounting screws should pass THROUGH the holes because you don't want to crush the side of the rail. This will also make it impossible for the bumper to ever slide out of position.
