I was wondering why some of the MPC cars appear to have a copper plated, then blackened wheels? I don't have my cars in front of me but these seem to range from around the 1974-76 era. All of the wheels were on plastic trucks. Was there any special purpose for the copper?
Different vendors in different parts of the country.
A friend of mine in upstate NY had a plating contract for a Lionel supplier in the 70's, and I still have some of the unplated unfinished rejected wheels he gave me back then. I never saw a finished one, so I don't know which ones are his. Lionel was doing a lot of experimentation with such things, it appears, at the time.
