Last week I posted on this forum a question to "The Good People at Atlas" asking if there was any news on the re-release of the California Zephyr and the corresponding F3's.

This morning I got an email from Mr Muffin that reads:

Atlas O will have F7 Prototypes at York

In discussion with Atlas O representatives this week, they will have prototypes of the long awaited F-7's at York this month. Mr Muffin will be grabbing photographs of each and every one to share here. They also stated they expected these to be shipping to Atlas this year yet - I will get a more definitive update at York.

We know. that the cars have already shipped.

So.... if the F7's are nearly ready to ship can the F3's be far behind?

Somebody knows.

That would be great news.  But also keep in mind that could imply a container shipment leaves China in late December, which means arrival to Atlas-O here in the States during mid- to late-February.  Just saying that's a possible scenario too.  I guess it really depends how soon full-production product typically ships after the importer's receipt of a prototype.  And I don't know that answer.

If I were a betting man, I'd say it'll be 2017 before these are in the hands of consumers.  But we should know more at York.

It's been so long that I've been waiting for these, I forgot if I ordered an F7 or an F3.

Highly unlikely Atlas would stop using the China drives in the foreseeable future ,unless MTH and Lionel would make such a move. The newer Sunset diesels are selling to a much smaller predominately 2 rail market willing to pay a considerably higher price to get what they want, it will be interesting to see how long this trend continues. I will feel alot better when the L&HR's Warwick roundhouse marks up the Atlas RS-3s for an Allentown/PA to Maybrook/NY extra on my basement railroad. At the rate delivery gets pushed back, I may be retired (again) by then.

Hope it happens soon.  Until then, you'll just have to settle for this.

It appears you are in luck as the RS3s should deliver to customers in Nov based on the Sept 6 container shipping date and the L&HR is in that run, interesting the Atlas container shipping still lists 8/22/16 as the newest date [www.atlasrr.com/containershipping.htm] although this site and the AtoZ shipping schedule are rarely in sync and motive power production continues to be very erratic, the GE8-40s continue to be an embarrassment for Atlas JMO

Actually with the exception of the CZ cars Atlas has been reasonably on schedule with the rolling stock in the last 2 years. JMO

The ATLAS O cars are now arriving in a very timely manner.

The ATLAS O diesel locos are what have been delayed for reworking.

its not too hard to change the numbers and ship out the same stuff over and over again.... usually wit a big price increase to go with it
