I recieved a DL 109 Cranberry as a gift last Christmas from a friend.  He said it was used but the Chronometer says only 4 hrs. I cannot find any videos of this train. It sounds and runs nice. The 110 B unit looks great too. Anyone in the forum have a video of it running on thier layout would be greatfully appreciated.

Hi There

It is used ! but like new ! if nothing is broken & working !

I do not have one .  You do ! so enjoy it & run It !    If it is proto 1 or Proto 2  buy a new battery or BCR !

Show us a video of your engines !    My Milwaukee Road version were  great ! (sold them)  Great pullers !  thirty boxcars on flat table !

They have great smoke units in the a & b units !

I assume you have checked YouTube? There are MTH DL109 videos there.

As you have the real thing, I assume that you have no nice layout scenery to enjoy the running.

The DL109 is my favorite cab diesel; I have 2 versions of the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio paint scheme DL's (actually they had DL105's and a DL109 - visually the same, pretty much).

An exceptional and maybe rare MTH model. Mine has not been run. I have another DL-109 (Class DER-1 on the New Haven) in the green/gold color scheme which has been run extensively and has never required more than lube and traction tires. Note that the New Haven did not operate any DL-109 B-units.

Love the look of the cranberry.........mine is the dark green/black with orange.

ICRRE8, unfortunately cannot get to my DL's to confirm this theory.  But I have a MTH set of E6's where the lead A-unit has and active rear coupler and so dose the trailing A-unit have an active front (facing rear) coupler.  In this case there is a coupler selection switch on the bottom of the lead A-unit that allows either the rear lead unit or rear facing trailing unit coupler to function.  It is a small slide switch marked for "on" or "off."  When this "coupler lock switch" is in the off position the master (lead) engine rear coupler will fire.  If set to on position then the trailing A-unit rear facing front coupler will fire.

check for this side switch probably to the side of the DL109 rear truck.

Just a guess since my E6's work this way.

ADDENDUM:  Just pulled up pictures of my DL109 with cab removed.  I see two side switches in the area beside rear truck.  I do NOT see any reference to these switches in the Operator's Manual.

Actually, I have 2 videos. One with the A & B unit. The second video I have shows just the A unit alone. It is pulling 6 Kline 21" Aluminum, New Haven passenger cars.

I know the Cranberry went to the Provincetown depot. I once saw a picture of the engine and two older heavyweights there. All the artists use to use it heavally from springtime to late October. Most were students at the New England Collage of Arts. Ansel Adams use to summer there. If you have a chance look up his work. He used an 8×10 glass negative camera. I met him once when I was 8, at a studio in Boston. They had a showing of his recent work, at that time
