With the spring York show just a few weeks ahead**, another MTH catalog is on the horizon as well. I thought it would be a good time to start the obligatory thread and foster some good discussion on the newest book from Mike's.

I always look forward to new catalogs just see which way manufacturers are headed. My guess is that we'll see all reissues as manufacturers try to get the most out of their tooling investment, but perhaps one or 2 new surprise may lay out there for us.

One engine I am guessing we might see is the C&O Kanawha 2-8-4 in Premier. It's been about 10 years since MTH last ran this model and they can be tough to find,  plus MTH went through the trouble to cut tooling for the correct steam and sand dome placement on this model (I am hoping our steam experts don't tare into me for that, I was just making a generic comment).

Lets hear your thoughts!

I really couldn't care less.   I am NOT singling out MTH.

  • I feel the same way about Lionel and Atlas.  I will not buy another product from ANYBODY, unlessI can have it that day.  I waited for a year beyond the expected delivery date for GGD products and two years beyond the expected delivery date on Atlas products. Still waiting for for the Atlas stuff. FUGETABOUTIT.

The last Kanwaha was 2010 20-3418-1 20-3419-1. Who knows maybe, one thing for sure you do not see many used ones for sale.

I hope we see a Kanawha in this catalog.  If so,.......

I also hope to see a Canadian National U1f #6060 in there.

WHAT?????   There was a "York show" just a few weeks ago????????

Sonofgun dagnabbit - I always check my posts and yet this slipped by me. My intent was to say "ahead" and not "ago" - I can blame autocorrect all I want but it's my responsibility to read them carefully before posting.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes - I will keep trying to make my posts "waterproof."

I am fine with existing models but wouldn't it be nice (for some of us) to see a catalog with new road names or ones we've rarely seen?  F-3 units in Great Norther Sky Blue, Illinois Central GP-9 units in the orange and white scheme, Chicago & Eastern Illinois F-3 or GP-7 units, Raritan River, Morristown & Erie, Black River & Western, Columbus & Greenville.  If MTH made just one from this list, I'd be happy.

Ohhh, you poor thing!!

I waited three and a half years for the Union Pacific Coal Turbine.  I thought they forgot to make it!  The good thing is through my dealer I didn't have to fork out any money until it was delivered.

The problem is, we can't just go to another store, dealer or manufacturer to get this stuff when we want it.  We might get lucky if someone makes a similar item at near the same time and delivers it first.  But that's as rare as the Tookie Tookie bird.

We make our choices and take our chances.

A lot of people complaining; where are the new tools? Not me, I'm just waiting for MTH, Lionel and Atlas to make product in my favorite road names and colors. If I was a NYC, Pennsy, UP fan or a few others that I cannot verify right now, there would have been more choices than I could afford. I did a research on Lionel Legacy and found that I have purchased 2 out of 3 Legacy locomotives produced in my choice of road names and paint scheme (era).

Southern Pacific covered wagons of any type in the "bloody nose" scheme. The forgotten paint, not everything was daylight and black widow on these passenger locomotives.

Ok.. I waste my time...but VIEWLINERS!

Amfleet was the other Amtrak only car type but MTH has sold these for decades.  Viewliner will sell equally well I assure them.

Also, a Potash Corp hopper. Couldnt find a pic I could share, sort of a salmon color hopper car.  I see them in HO, N, and 1/1 scale regularly but to my knowledge never yet in O.

//////////////////////////////////////////

1970s pre Amtrak "auto-train"  MTH made the car carriers but never offered the rest of the train.  MTH could sell a 5 car set, add ons, and multiple extra full domes.  They had the colors exactly right on the carriers they made loooonnnggg ago.

Your knowledge is limited. Time for it to grow! Atlas O did a special run of two numbers in the Trinity 5161 series of hopper cars.
