Greetings From A New Member,

While new to this wonderful group, I'm a veteran model railroad enthusiast currently in "O" scale.  Here's my dilemma.  I have an older MTH PRR K4 Pacific (item number 330-1115-1) with First Generation Proto Smoke and Proto Sound.  Several years back, she quit smoking AND running so I put her away with the intention of having her repaired.  Fast forward to today.  I pulled the shell and removed the PC Board that controls the smoke and engine functions and I tested the motor separately using a DC transformer from an old HO set I had laying around.  The Motor Works Just Fine.  It's my understanding that these early PROTO SMOKE boards went bad and I think that is where the problem is.  Here's where you guys come in.  Where can I find a replacement board or a complete smoke unit that I can bolt right in and get this rather nice K4 running again.  BTW, before I took the board out I put some power to the engine with the tender connected the PROTO Sound started working by sounding the 3 bells before going into "Reset Mode".  Any Help will be greatly appreciated.  I really could use an exploded parts diagram and parts list as well.  Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

You can repair the PS/1 smoke units, they're a stand-alone unit that runs off track power.

Did you get three bells, or three clanks?  Three clanks is indicative of a bad battery that has scrambled the memory of the PS/1 board set.  There is a specific reset chip to correct this, MTH techs have them, and you can buy that chip for that specific issue.
