I have this Mallet and having issues, Ran fine at first then it starting having issues if you blew the whistle it would stop, So if you throttle up to 16 volts it would then run again, then lower to around 14volts or lower it would be fine, If you blew the whistle again it would stop and you would have to raise the volts again. It would not do this with the bell. Ok so I delt with it and it would run, would not do this in reverse. Ok this year ran fine blew the whistle and all was fine. Now it only runs in reverse whistle / horn are fine you can hear the click when going from reverse to forward. but won't go forward this is a PS1, Is there anyway to by pass the board to run this in forward? Or can a different e-unit board be used? From another company? I know I wont have all the sounds, Any help? I guess I cant justify spending 300.00 buck on boards. Also if I put another tender from MTH it runs fine. Thank You Mark

You can use a standard electronic reverse unit, or you can just wire a bridge rectifier to the locomotive pickups and the motor it i'll run in forward only with no sound. Either is a fairly trivial exercise.
Finally, it's probably possible to repair the PS/1 boards, I know that George (GGG on OGR) does a lot of these, you might contact him.
That is weird. WHat transformer? Most PS-1 are flying at 14-16 volts. They move nicely even down around 10V. Board can be replaced if not repaired for much cheaper. G
Yes Sir, Had the issue a couple years ago if you blew the whistle it would stop, you then had to move throttle up to 16 volts then it would run. you then can bring it down to 12 or volts it was fine, its a z-400 mth transformer, In fact I got your email from gunrunnerjohn, will be sending you the boards this week. Thank You again. Mark
Just a quick note to check the 9v (8.4v) battery health status. Do sounds cut-out in less than 3 sec when power is cut? The PS1's can get "quirky" when battery health is low.
Nope, 2yr old battery this year, prior to using my batteries get charged yearly. sent board out 4 repair. thank you
