Just curious, was anyone able to obtain the new DCS WIU/TIU combo unit #50-1039 from Trainworld, they had an expected shipment date of 4/30/22. Now it’s been removed from the item description.

It has not been delivered by MTH yet. I suspect Trainworld removed it because they are no longer accepting preorders.

I suspect it'll be some time before we actually see this product. I think the parts supply issue has put a major crimp in shipments of all types of electronics!
Am I wrong in stating that I saw this product at York? Maybe I had some bad coffee that day!
"I think" I heard at the York DCS presentation they are still hoping to have them available in the fall, but this was accompanied by the usual comments on supply chain, chip shortages, etc.... as GRJ notes.
I'm scrambling to find parts for my relatively simple boards, something the size of the TIU with all the single-sourced parts has to be a nightmare! For quite a few years we were riding the crest of cheap and readily available parts, those days are behind us, at least for the foreseeable future.
Premium prices right now on eBay!!! I want one but not that bad!!!
I am wrong, it was the DCS explorer wifi track interface unit 50-1035 that I saw.
That one is already discontinued Frank.
Is this new MTH 50-1039 a replacement for the discontinued MTH 50-1003 REV-L ? If I'm correct, The MTH 50-1034 is a system that requires a smart phone to operate trains. I thought MTH had no plans to manufacture a new TIU that you could use a handheld remote with. I have no tech knowledge. Can someone who has tech knowledge explain about the MTH 50-1039.
The MTH 50-1034 is the WiFi Interface unit for the older TIU. The MTH 50-1039 is the new TIU that has WiFi built in, and does not support the existing remote except by tethering.
Thanks John. You sure do know your electronics !
Well, I have been following this topic as I'm interested in what is going on in the command world.
I ordered the 50-1039 from Mr Muffin on Oct 2nd 2020. ..
Mike Wolf stated during the online interview with Trainworld a few months ago that a part was discontinued that was to be used in the new TIU that required a redesign of the item. Might be available next spring???

This is the constant challenge in electronic equipment design, especially more recently where unique single-source parts seem to be the norm. In my aerospace design career, we spent a lot of time on parts selection and trying to avoid getting trapped into single-source parts. For parts that single source couldn't be avoided, we typically did a large buy to insure a supply for the entire production cycle. Given that most avionics products had to have at least a 20 year availability, that could be a significant investment. A significant effort was constantly reviewing designs to insure that parts were still available years after the design was complete and even production had ceased. Many times, production would be revived with a modified version of an old product for a customer.
