MTH -9 Snowplow question

MTH snow plows and mu hoses don't seem to get along well. I have more than one that has this problem. Saw a video by someone that said in the video they fixed the mu hoses to work with the snow plow.  I asked him about it. He said he removed the mu hoses, installed the snow plow and then re-installed the mu hoses. I was hoping for a simpler solution.  I'm hoping you will get a lot of replies here and someone will have an easier method. 

I did install the plow but it's definitely not a great fit. The mu hoses do have to stick out sideways a little to make it work.

Great loco's I really like them though.

I leave mine off. Looks better for now. There are some aftermarket MU hoses and connectors that a forum member put on one of his MTH diesels. I think the glad hands were from Precision Scale and the hoses themselves made from fishing fly tying material.

I think it's just the innermost hoses that don't want to come thru?

I thought I cut the inside of the plow's hole wider? I can't find that pic. I have most of them with just two hoses thru on the older ones. The newer hoses are thinner.

Yes the newer mu hoses I have have are much thinner...  must admit I like the thicker older ones more.

I don't think I've put a model together and ever had it work out perfectly. There's always some glitch to deal with.

MTH puts out a sweet locomotive. Once I work through a couple minor issues they should be all set.

On my ES44AC, I remember bringing the snowplow from the bottom, lifting the hoses & forcing it through the opening in the snowplow before I secured the snowplow to the locomotive. The innermost hose close to the coupling is twisted but the recent snowplow on scale-wheeled locomotives are much better than the ones on earlier models. My Norfolk Southern SD70M-2 from 2006 had a snowplow that was stuck out at least ½” from the front of the locomotive & when I tried to force the hoses through the opening in the snow-plow the thicker hoses didn’t want to bend & I snapped my snowplow rendering it useless.

I chickened out before breaking anything and did as AGHRMatt has done, left them off for now. Nice to hear the newer ones have been improved, I have some on order. Will take a second look when they arrive. I also like the MTH diesels, very nice, even if the snow plow does have a slight glitch.

I wonder if MTH monitors forums like this and makes notes for improvement?

I never expect perfection. When I started in 1995 we had nothing like what we have today. What MTH is putting out is great.

They listen, and they do make improvements, or at least they used to. Indeed, the Dash 9s perhaps wouldn't have been upgraded to current form otherwise. The MU hoses are finer and more scale-proportioned in the past. They are easier to slip through the plows, but the offset look is not ideal:



It's occurred to me to relocate them on the pilot, but so far the project hasn't been a priority.
