I thought I saw this on the forum but can’t find it. I would like to swap out the green front led’s with red ones to make the locomotives look more realistic. Has anyone done this? If so which leds should I use. I would love to be able to buy some from MTH and just plug and play. Any help is much appreciated!!! Thank you

You will need MTH Part #CC0000062A (the A indicates in includes the 8-pin connector for 5V PS2 boards); they are in stock on MTH's parts website.

John,
Thank you so much and have a great day!!!!
I did the same on the PS2 equipped F40PH. Luckily I had an extra shell lying around to do it but it was super simple. I actually used a same diameter dowel from a king cotton swab and just tapped them out and put in the red ones.

Hi John,
is this an easy swap out??

thank you for sharing!!! It looks amazing!!
This should help a little bit. It’s not quite a genesis, but it’ll give you an overall arrangement of what the pigtail looks like.

It should be; gentle pressure is required to push out the old LEDs.

Thank you both for all of the support!!! Have a great evening.
I tried installing the red leds. It to no avail I could not get them to work. So sad, but thank you for all of the love and awesome OGF support!!!

We can get you through... lets start with the basics. Are you close to any of us? I'm in CNY.
Thanks,

I am in Foxboro Ma I little bit of a ride. I think the part CC0000062A I fried it. Because I just plugged it into were the old leds plugged into up on the front of the locomotive. It came with another plug attached to it that was black with a jumper on it. I took that off and just plugged them in. So then when I went to try them the did not light up. So I check the continuity on my volt meter I had all 000. So I believe the bulbs might have blown some how.

I doubt it if the old harness was also LED, my guess is that the polarity is switched. If you have a meter, check the voltage and if it’s correct, swap the connector. Pop out the pins and swap them.
I know Foxborough! I went to school at St. A’s up in Manchester and we went down to Gillette for the inaugural MLS game in the country when the NY/NJ Metrostars played the NE Revolution way back in… ahem. Yeah.
Lol yes some love the town some don’t because Brady really won some games!!! The REVs play a lot here and they draw a big crowd. It is a great town with really good schools. I have driven past Saint A’s a bunch of times. I will give that a try and see what happens. Can I check the continuity the same way?

Popping the pins out of the Molex Mini-SPOX connectors is normally a one-way affair. The Molex accepted method of removing the pins destroys them.
In any case, I really doubt it's a polarity issue if they were plugged into the proper LED connector in the locomotive.

Just take something small and pointy and press in the tab, applying slight backwards pressure and they’ll slide out.
You’ll need to bring the tab back up so it’ll positively lock into the connector, I use a thin blade.
With that said, John’s probably right. I’d make sure that the markers are turned on in the DCS first, it could be that easy… if you’re running conventional, try a reset.
thanks!

Mario, my point is that unless you have a fine touch, you'll kill the contact. Yes, I do that all the time, since they're not really designed to come out that way, sometimes they are pretty difficult to extract without the destructive method.

You’re 110% right… I’ve ruined a few.
