Below are MTH Norfolk Southern ES44AC no. 8051 (MTH no. 20-20504-1)(purchased new from a dealer) and Lionel Norfolk Southern ES44AC (no. 6-82209)(purchased used off eBay).B68FF3C5-CD54-49AA-A035-8AD7B0B2EDDB

The MTH model comes without the snow plow attached but there is one in the box that will affix with two supplied screws.

The Lionel model came with the snow plow attached to the kinematic pilot which will improve the realism of the locomotive on curves.

There are noticeable size differences on the model designation under the cab numbering.  The MTH lettering is larger in this respect than Lionel’s.

The rear headlights are oriented vertically on the MTH model and horizontally on the Lionel model.  The Lionel model is the correct orientation for Norfolk Southern ES44ACs.

I like the windshield wipers on the Lionel model (8056) better than those on the MTH model (8051).  They are larger and appear more adapted to heavy use.

Great looking ES44's! I prefer the Lionel version even though lights are in wrong place on non-NS units.

I've bought and sold a few engines on Ebay with no issues. I did have one bad smoke unit and Lionel replaced board no problem. If Ebay is the only one with the piece I'm looking for then I'm buying it there. I dont really see the correlation of buying off Ebay and then the loco magically turns into an inferior product.
