MTH Black CSX SD-40

Does anyone know the back story behind the black in color MTH SD 40-2 produced a few years back? Curious to find out what that's all about.

CSX traded NS their 12 SD80MACs for 12 of NS's SD40-2s. The latter were not immediately repainted. Check out this forum post: https://ogrforum.com/...0-2-s-in-black-paint

As noted above, these units are former SD40s rebuilt to SD40-2 specs under one of the old NS rebuild programs; the MTH model, being of an SD40-2 is not the prototypical length, but one could either repaint a Lionel SD40 or attach the body to an MTH SD45 frame.
