New CSX SD40-2's In Black Paint

No this not a photoshop, NS traded 12 ex CR SD40-2R's to CSX for their SD80MAC's. This is how CSX patched them.

I hope the others were patched better than the one in the photo. The road number is not centered. That's why I said photo shopped.

It should pull freight just fine.

No this can't be photoshopped because I've found this photo on Railpictures.net and railpictures.net doesn't take really any photoshopped pictures. I've never seen any there site. And there about the best rail picture website on the Internet besides Railpicturearchives.net  http://www.railpictures.net/vi...d=525529&nseq=12

The road number isn't centered because of the air vent on the side of the cab, towards the front.

Kind of reminds me of the P&LE scheme.

No, CSX is being cheap, they let the NS black paint on and just painted over the NS name and logo. Also notice the number board numbers are different then the number on the side. MHO     sloppy!

 

PS as bad as it looks it is a much better look then anything PC painted.

Looks like a beast! Id like to see her in action before she goes blue.

 Those are real pictures of former NS SD's. I've operated several 3400's. They were former Conrail units,some UP.

 

 I've also operated several ex-CSX SD-40's we bought from rental companies that were painted over and the letters spray painted on the cabs.

 

 As long as they have initials and numbers on the side their good to go. 

CSX several years ago received a group of NS B40 8's from them, I caught this

one back in 2007 at the Cumberland Md CSX Locomotive Shop.

It is, as far as I know, still in service, and after a few years in the system in

it's black paint, is now wearing the "dark future" blue.

 I never understood why the NS got rid of those units,they were good units for local type jobs where four axles were required .

 

That new cab and nose are pretty gross, but hey "new" EMD...and good for another thirty years, but I'll bet more like sixty.  These guys are the locomotive equivalent of the B52 Strato Fort.  Still be running when the Sun runs out of fuel!
