Kevin,
Please provide the catalog number of the engine. You will find it on the end of the box. Then people can properly and knowledgeably respond to you.

Early PS-1 has smoke switch on engine under cab. PS-2 5V could be on engine or on tender. PS-2 3V on tender. Manuals usually on MTH web site under support. G
i did not get any boxes but i went on line and found the # it is 30-1172-0 it has the loco sound
thank you
kevin
Your engine was built in 2000. That makes it an early PS-1. Like G says, look under the cab for the smoke switch.

hello
that was the 1st place i looked i did not see one anywhere. i will post picture after work

MTH made a lot of versions of this engine. You need to be sure what it is. Does it have a mechanical or electrical coupler? If no switch, it could be a pot on the tender. One is volume the other is smoke. But again, PS-1 and PS-2 with circuit board in the engine have smoke switch on engine. G
hello GGG
i see nothing under the engine and the tender has a volume knob that you turn with a screw driver a switch that has on and off it dose not say smoke
kevin
That switch is the smoke. So board must be in tender. G
Thanks for the info i will try it tonight kevin
