B unit pass through cable, are the 5 volt versions wired the same as a 3 volt type. Are they interchangeable? For A-B-A F-3's.

They are straight pass thru. They are different though. Early on 5V were not using the 22 gauge motor lead and ac wires the same. I think this got fixed later on. But B unit cables are pass thru no wire crossing internally. G
Thanks G.
I have a PS2 F3 ABA Premier that I have has a problem smooth running. The track signal is 10 all around when running smooth. I took the shells off. I ran only the AA units. The leading A pulls the trailing A when going forward and pushes when going back ( I looked close at the couplers). The trailing A has a sluggish motor (I put index marks on the top) stops and starts rotating. I also noticed the yellow lead to the motor had a slit in the insulation (vinyl ?) between the motor and the PWB. Any Idea where to start?
Thanks in Advance
Charlie
Sounds like classic slave board problem. Does the trailing A unit run in one direction when on the track by it's self?
Chuck; Thanks for your reply.
The Trailing F3 will not run alone. These units have a 10 position (2X5) mini connector between units. Do you know what are the functions of the Trailing F3 electronics / PWB ?
If you put the trailing A unit and it runs by itself, the slave board in the trailing A is bad. The electronics control the motors, smoke unit, coupler, and lights. The pick-ups provide the power, the board controls them. If the two engines are running at different speeds, it could be the slave board still. If the one motor is dragging, it may have to be replaced. Do you have a similar trailing A unit to try with the powered engine and see how it responds? My guess the problem is the slave board.
These can be complex to figure out. The slave response is delayed and some times worn gear back lash can cause it to lock while being moved by lead unit before motor starts to turn. Especially at low speeds. Can be motor too. Can be slave board. Start with a good cleaning of the trucks of the trail A. Light lubrication and grease. Clean motors with electronic motor cleaner. Then try it. Inspect side gears closely for mesh. G
Thanks all;
I did all the above and she is running good without the shell. I'll run it a few more hours before returning it to the shell.
