Just got the MTH coors light train with protosound 2 3 volt. It was new in box and had only been bench tested. It ran well for about 30 minutes, all features worked. Then while running, the sound stopped and all features would not work. I pulled the battery thinking it was bad, but it had a charge of around 2.0 volts? Do you think the board is shot or is the battery not have enough voltage? Thanks for any advice. This is my first protosound.

Feature reset? Do you mean reset to factory default?
You said it ran fine for awhile, what exactly was it doing when it quit. What type of transformer are you using? Are you running with DCS or conventional? Was there a derailment? As stated try a Feature reset?
I am using conventional MTH z750 transformer. The train was running around track about medium speed when I noticed the "chugging" noise had stopped. No bell or whistle or rail yard features. It only runs now, with no sound. I pulled the battery and it measured 2.0 on the volt meter. No derailment. Sorry I am a total noob to protosound trains.
Does your local dealer have a DCS system?
If so he can reset it for you easily.
Otherwise it's the button press sequence for you.
Reset is 1 Whistle, 5 bells. wait for 2 short blasts of the horn, Power off and wait for it to stop making sounds.
Timing is critical for this, Short solid hits of the button with 1/2 second gaps between button presses.
This is all covered in detail in your manual.
I recommend getting the DCS Remote Commander.
It's only $50 MSRP and will give you most of the command control features.
That train REALLY gets extra fun under a full DCS system.
You can start the jingle, stop the train, open the doors with the smoke/fog rolling out, close up and roll away then stop the jingle.
Or any one of the steps alone.
This is probably the biggest crowd pleaser on my layout.
I have added an additional reefer and the tail car.
So do you think the battery is good if its reading 2.0 volts on the meter? Every thing i read was battery issues, but with that much charge, that battery should be good? If so, I'll put the battery back in and try to reset.
Hmmmm.
2.0 sounds low to me If the engine was not connected to it. Test by having the engine running and killing the track power abruptly.
Sounds should continue for at least 7 seconds and it should be completing the shutdown sequence.
If this fails, replace the battery.
Replacing the battery is rarely a bad idea. As long as you are careful with the connector And watch the wires when closing back up it has no harmful effect.
Did you have a load on the battery when you tested it?
No I just pulled the battery out and tested. I just installed a BCR. No luck with sound. I will be taking her to the local MTH service guy tomorrow.
Please if you can, let us know the diagnosis. I am having a similar problem with a proto 2 engine. Thanks

I sure will. It goes Saturday. I hope having a MTH service station nearby pays off. This train needs to run for a Super Bowl party. fingers crossed
Yes, 2 volts is too low. Unload should be about 2.6V fully charged. The Feature reset with your transformer should bring sounds back. Did you try it? Have battery charged fully or replace. It is pushing 6-7 years old, so it may be dead. G

The MTH service guy did a great job. Turns out the speaker was bad. And as far as the BCR is concerned, he doesnt recommend them. Since he is the expert, we removed that and installed new battery. All works well now. Thanks again for everyones help.
