Just arrived at MrMuffin'sTrains are the MTH RS 3 Diesels painted in the original Monon paint scheme. This scheme was the Monon's first diesel scheme and didn't last long. Thanks to MTH for making these for me - we unloaded 120 of them from the semi late Thursday. We sold these engines by the pair with the freight cars MTH made for us to assemble a Wreck Train. One engine and crane would come from Louisville and one from the Monon shops in Lafayette, Indiana. The train also had a diner to feed the crews. Some Monon experts say it also had bunks in one end and some say it didn't. Interesting.

I also included pictures of the cars in the Wreck Train Set. I am really happy with these - thanks MTH!

Interestingly, we have a photograph of this engine sitting on the NKP track just 20 feet from the front door at our new building in Atlanta, Indiana.

Thank you - actually, we are also doing the MTH Premier Mikado in Monon. The were used for both freight and passenger service, and they ran just blocks from my house through Indianapolis. The Monon had lots of them. We are doing a nodel of the first one the Monon received. MTH even got the builders' plate correct.

I only had MTH make 24 pieces, and they have just shipped to us with the rest of the Premier Mikados. No pictures yet, but the MTH artwork is shown below. Next year, I want to do the Monon Pacifics. As I type this, I have one of the 24 Mikados left to sell.

Nice colors on the RS3.

As a Purdue Boilermaker grad, the colors remind me that Purdue's football team had its origins (late 1800's) from the Lafayette, IN Monon shops.  Back then it was common practice to recruit the team from the community, rather than from students.  The burly guys at the railroad shops were prime candidates for this rough and tumble game.

I know Purdue's colors are Gold and Black, but the RS's are close enough.......IMHO, of course.  (Of course the Iowa Hawkeyes might disagree......)

Nice set, too.

That's what the Monon changed to, Old Gold and Black, in honor of Purdue. And the passenger stuff, starting with the F3s were painted in Wabash's colors.
