All Premier F units have two powered a's

That is not quite true.  The very early MTH F Units had one powerd A unit and an unpowered A unit.  If a second powered unit was desired it was available as a separate sale B unit.

I do not know if any of those early F units were ever offered as part of the Dealer Appreciation Program.  It may be a true statement that all DAP F units have two powered A units.

I will verify that what Ted states, above, is true. One of the guys in our modular group (Independent Hi-Railers, Midwest Division) models the AT&SF, and has a BEAUTIFUL Santa Fe Super Chief train set, powered by an A-B-B-A set of very early MTH "F" units. In the consist is one POWERED "B" unit and at least one powered "A" unit (all units have been up-graded from conventional to TMCC command control).

Maybe Santa Fe Jim will respond.
