Hello, I only have a 8x10 3 loop layout using atlas track & switches. Running conventional with a z-4000.

Can anyone tell me the advantages of going DCS? Is it worth it for a small layout? Only have one PS-2

engine at the moment, all others are PS-1 & Prewar. How is it to do the wiring with the Z-4000.

Thanks, John

Jponz,

The MTH DCS will open up a new world of remote control for both your Conventional engines and your P1 and P2 engines.  If you dreamed of running your trains with a remote control as a kid, like I did, DCS is right up your alley.  If you choose to purchase the DCS, 1st Purchase Barry's Book The DCS O Gauge Companion, it is a detailed instruction on how to set up and run MTH DCS.  Further if you are a visual type learner pick up a copy of the OGR Video Guide to DCS, it shows you on screen how to set up and get started using the full DCS.  None of this is hard, however it will save you a lot of frustration if you read and watch before attempting to build a layout.  Then come back to the DCS section of the OGR and we will help you with anything you do not understand fully.  I run both DCS & Legacy at the same time on my layouts, and love it.  We have a lot of knowledgeable people who are willing to help you with both DCS & Legacy here on the OGR.  IMO the purchase of DCS will be more than worth it.

I'm a new member, but have had DCS & TMCC for over 10 years.  I highly recommend it for any size RR.  I had a problem with a 2 lost fixed channels about 2 weeks ago.  My LHS recommended trying the ogauge forum. There was a thread that mentioned Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion.  I received it last Thursday and had the TIU fixed with 4 channels working.  Without that book I did not Know that there were 4-20Amp fuses inside the box.  Thank you Barry!

I now have a fast acting 10amp fuse between the old ZW & the TIU.
